The Goldfish Project - Part One

Have you seen the amazing goldfish artwork from Japanese artist Riusuke Fukahori? He paints three-dimensional goldfish using a complex process of poured resin. In 2011 to early this year he had a show in the UK and quite a few websites posted links to a video showing him working with resin.

I love this artwork and want to make my own little version of a goldfish swimming in resin.....however, I don't have the skills to paint a goldfish in 3D!
So here is what I am doing instead.
I have poured about 1/8 of an inch of Envirotex Lite into this mold.
I let the resin set up for about three hours.
Then I pushed this mini goldfish into the resin.  The resin has the consistency of a gel at this point and I know my fish will not topple or move.  I am going to let this cure and show you what I do next in tomorrow's post!

  1. I have seen this guy's work, its amazing! I totally thought it was real- even after being told it was resin! I can imagine painting patterns in resin, but nothing like he does! Can't wait to see your version :)
