I am so happy with how this bead looks!
It turned out so well I made the matching kumihimo bracelet to showcase it!
This is my fourth post featuring some of the 2012 newly launched products at Nunn Design.
Tomorrow I have a special give-a-way announcement!
Becky Nunn sent me these "channel beads" to experiment with.
Working on a curve is not my first thought when I pull our my ETI resin products.
However, resin as a glaze is pretty spectacular.
So here is what I did. I applied some tissue and paper images to the beads. I sealed my images with several layers of mod-podge.
Then I "painted" on a glaze of Jewelry Resin just like I would if I was going to seal them with a varnish. I babysat my beads to make sure I didn't put too much on. I didn't want resin to pool in one location or cure with a drip. After an hour or so, I was sure that the glaze was just settling nicely.
How do you like these beads? I'll be experimenting a lot more with this technique in the future!
Those are awesome!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant. They look great, and what nice new technique to try. Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteOMG I want some of those channel beads! They'd be perfect for fabric/fiber applications, too. Are they in stores?
ReplyDeleteooooOOOOOooooo! Man, now I want to play with 'em, too! And, I really like the ones in that last shot, so '20's! Mad about 'em!
ReplyDeleteLove these Carmi!

when applying the resin, did you set your beads upright or let them "roll"?
ReplyDeleteGreat question! I let them stay in the rolling position. This way I could check for drips!
DeleteEver thought about making the beads thicker by covering them with polymer clay first? That way you have more surface for images to show and the silver edge will be even with the outer part of the bead. Don't know if you work with polymer clay but it was just a thought.
ReplyDeleteHi Valerie...absolutely, accept I will use a resin clay. These will be stunning with crystals embedded in clay! Pop over to Nunn Designs and see what they did too!
ReplyDeleteOh wauw! I love the kumihimo! I joined a workshop on kumihmo, it's very fun to do! love it!
ReplyDeleteI love this technique! I picked up some small wooden spools at the craft store today to see if I can replicate the technique using those.
ReplyDeleteYou had me at spool beads! Amazing creativity!
ReplyDeleteThis post gives me some new things to try Miss Carmi! So glad you are having fun with the Nunn Designs pieces. They make some great stuff! Enjoy the day. Erin
