Something very special is curing in my studio this week!
Two weeks ago at the Bead and Button show I was mesmerized by these trays in the Trinket Foundry booth.
Trinket Foundry founder Cathy creates her upcycled treasures: Bottlecap Beads, Tumbled Glass, Tart Charms and Tin Beads for retail and wholesale customers, and sells these products at shows and online.
The "Tart Charms" are totally unique because she is cutting them from vintage serving trays. The patterns in the tray look wonderful on each one of a kind charm.
I was crazy for the leftover tray however!
This one was used to cut out a number of bird and oval charms.
I brought the tray home and as you can see from my set up had a great idea to return it to it's original form. I pulled out my collection of french tissue paper. These are decoupage papers from France.
The hot pink and silver look wonderful through the openings in the tray.
I cut a peice of tissue to fit the back of my tray and used mod podge to glue it in place,
I painted several layers of mod podge to the back allowing each layer to dry thoroughly. Then I let everything dry overnight.
Now for the exciting part. I need to make sure the back of my tray is solid and my tissue paper needs to be strengthened.
I have poured EasyCast resin over my tissue paper and will allow this to cure overnight.

ReplyDeleteThis is EXCITING and am anxious to see what you have in store for us. I wonder what was used to cut the charms from the trays, so perfectly? Do you have any idea? Come on tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteI am pretty sure they have a laser cutter. You would need something industrial to keep up with the volume they need.
