EnviroTex Lite Resin Flower Fun

Hello Resin Lovers!! Karen Bearse here, and today we are playing with cool mix media resin flowers. In a previous post  Resin Paper Series #1  I did tutorials on how to resin different types of paper. That is always good practice to get comfortable with applying resin. Lets get started with a new project using some of the paper!!! Here is the super cool project we are making.

The flowers have a stiff feeling and are a bit translucent. They have a vibrant color and the shimmer from the mist can be seen through the resin coating. They would be great to use on an art journal page, scrapbook page, cover of a book.  I will do some trouble shooting for you as well or how I would do this differently next time.  I am going to try keep this simple, never an easy task!

Supplies:
EnviroTex Lite Resin
Paper (book paper)
Die cut flowers
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist (or your favorite)
Button or bead
Cropodile

1. Die cut shapes using your favorite system. I cut mine out of book paper using with Eileen Hull's Flower Layers die #9 by Sizzix. 

2. Mist the flowers - in this project Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist was used because of its bold color and shimmer factor. Use a heat gun or let dry completely.

3. Time to mix the resin!! I simply followed the easy directions to make the EnviroTex Lite resin - read the instructions for full info.  Measure out equal amounts of resin & hardener.  Pour into one cup & stir together for about 2 minutes. Pour into a clean 2nd cup & with a new stir stick, stir 1 minute.

Now you are ready to resin.

4. Put flower shapes on a non-stick craft sheet.  Apply a coat of resin by dripping from the stir stick onto the flowers.  Use the stick to spread the resin, push the resin toward the edge of the flower.  If you keep the stick away from the edge but let the resin flow naturally to the edges, it will maintain the flower shape.  The resin will dome naturally and you will not need to trim the edges when dry.

5. Let dry overnight.  Now you may use your flowers separately or punch a hole in the center using a cropodile tool and gather the petals with a brad.  Handle the flowers carefully as they are a bit brittle. For a stronger flower add resin to the backside of the flower first, set on craft sheet & than drip the resin on top. 

6. I went one step further adding a button and wire to my flower to create a fun piece!  Eileen Hull debuted her fantastic new Twist and Style tool with Sizzix at CHA 2016.  I was lucky enough to get to play with a prototype so you get a sneak peek of the results of that play!!!

The tool is not available until May but here is a sample of just one of the many things it does.
