Resin Mishap turned Awesome

Whenever I am working with Resin I always have extra molds out in case I mixed up to much...that way I am able to use up every late little drop...last week I had mixed up a small batch of EasyCast for a project and had some left over so I added some gold ultra fine glitter to it and poured it into some molds....

I left them to dry overnight and in the morning I realized what went wrong....They were still WET....
Truth be told it is December and I live in Minnesota....While I made sure the house temperature was turned up to 70 degrees, which is required for success....My house does not heat evenly and my studio has 5 windows....it was a windy and blustery night so my studio actuality was was cooler then 70 degrees....

So my first reaction was to empty the resin out of the molds....

Now if I would have left the resin in the molds and moved the molds into my living room
where it was warmer they would have still set up, but I did not know that at the time....

So I removed the resin and inside my molds I had left over glittered resin in all the details of the molds.  Then it occurred to me, that if I poured another color of resin over this it might give me some great results....so...

I mixed up a small batch of EasyCast by measuring out equal amounts of the resin and hardener,
mixing them together for 2 minutes and the pouring that into a second cup and mixing for another minute.  Then I added some ultra fine glitter in blue and poured that on top of the molds....
I waited 24 hours to remove the pieces and the results....

Were absolutely stunning....while I know that I can put glitter right into a mold before adding resin, it is hard to get it exactly where I want it....with this mishap,  the glittered gold resin was in all the right places and after pouring the second layer...

 The results were Awesome.....

So I am thinking this can be done easily without a mishap...by pouring a small amount of one color into your molds just to go into the all the tiny spaces...letting it dry for a couple hours and then coming back with a second color....

What do you think?  I just love the results of this mishap!!

  3. Awesome! I love accidental successes with resin. Of course, it's so unpredictable I sometimes celebrate any success I have with it lololol
