Now, if your cats are like this, you don't need to worry.
But if you have a cat like Mable, Claudine Hellmuth's fur baby, read on - I have a super tip for you!
Every few weeks I get a little note like the one I received from Laura:
Hey Carmi, quick resin question... So I finished my gorgeous bezels and went to dinner... Uh... Don’t do that, btw... LOL.... Did you know that wet resin sticks to cats? And cats with resin on them run around the house... Interesting...So I’m hoping I can add more resin and fix it? Someone said something about sanding it first? Any recommendations? LOL

Of course, you can fix a mistake by pouring a little more resin over your piece. Happily, Laura did and saved the pendant.
However, you can avoid all those issues by simply placing a plastic container over your curing pieces. If you have cats, you should do this every single time.
Laura's cat-tastrophy inspired me to create this cat themed pendant. To cat lovers everywhere: protect your pieces!!

ReplyDeleteLOL!!! I use the upside down container because I have curious kids and hubby. Plus it prevents me from being tempted to stick my finger in it to see if its cured. ;)

You are so right Wendy! My friend has a studio attached to her salon and we are sure a curious client stuck her finger into an almost finished sample!
DeleteI do have to say, if you have a determindely curious cat, you may want to put a weight on top of the container. If it catches their eye, they bat at it. If it moves, they keep batting.... o_O Yeeeaaah, fun!
ReplyDeleteOMG too funny yes my Siamese kittens would be batting these "playthings" around in to time! I vote putting curing resin in another room -preferably with a door! lol
DeleteLove your pendant... and your advice!! I followed it religiously with all subsequent pieces! and I have to say The Crazier Sister has a point as well. Well...life with cats is always fun. At least it was fixable! Now if the Labrador had got hold of it...all bets off!!

ReplyDeleteThat is a great idea! I don't have cats but I am famous for tossing ribbon or a scrap of paper across my desk and having it land in my resin that isn't dry! Don't know why i never thought of covering it? Duh!

ReplyDeleteI bought a plastic dealy at a garage sale for a buck. It's big and has a hinge in the middle of it with a handle on each end. So cool! I was so happy when I bought it and the lady looked at me like I was nuts!
ReplyDeleteI learned this the hard way as well! I found one of my resin pieces on the floor, could not figure out what happened, then found my cat with resin all over her leg. Even just the cat hair floating around my house will end up in my resin pieces if I don't cover them while they are curing.
ReplyDeleteThis is for more than just cats, although resin-on-cat has many more repercussions than booboo on resin! I'm going to enjoy this as I dry things outdoors on my porch -- which has screens and therefore those wretched little no-see-em bugs! Splendid!
ReplyDeleteI don't do resin (yet), and I worry about the health effects on the Furry Boss, who'll taste ANYTHING. What I use with my polymer clay, awaiting its trip to the oven, are several of those hinged plastic salad cases, turned upside down. I have ceramic tiles cut to size inside, and just keep adding pieces til I have enough to bake a full oven. That could work for resined items, also. Keep the filled trays on a shelf without too much clearance, or kitty is certain to see an invitation to sit ON TOP!
