I love your blog! I just found it when I was looking for info on envirotex as I had a complete disaster with resin (a different type),about 6 months, ago and after ruining around 15 bezels which STILL haven't dried heh, I ran scared of the whole thing and made other jewellery with polymer clay/watch parts. I'm selling well online now but was determined to get that resin right. Your blog has helped me so much, I have 20 bezels ready so fingers crossed! Huge comment here I'll shut up eh? Michelle :)
ReplyDeleteSounds interesting! I've yet to actually use any resin, but this I might have to try.
ReplyDeleteOoh I'll be looking for this at Michaels! Can't wait to try it out!
ReplyDeleteHello All Consuming! Let me say hello and just say one thing - don't be scared of resin! Your first pieces should be just for fun and ideally you work in something inexpensive like a bottlecap before you use good bezels! Just be extra careful that you mix exact 1 to 1 ratios and there is no reason why you shouldn't have success! Keep me posted!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing how this works for you. I will be interested to know how it compares to Envirotex Lite or EasyCast.
ReplyDeleteHey,
ReplyDeleteThis sounds fabulous!
Do you know where I can buy it in Australia?
Creative hugs,
Anna
I am new to resin crafts, am wondering, can resin be poured over old glossy photos.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mona
Hi Mona, yes, many many people use resin for that reason. I do encourage you to do some research about protecting images etc and you'll find a lot of great posts and how-tos on this blog. My best suggestion is to make sure you take the time to experiment on papers and items of no value before you jump in and use sentimental or important ephemera. There is a resin learning curve.
ReplyDeleteIs this product non-toxic? I agree, resin is nothing to be afraid of, and there are many types out there that you can buy. You can have curing success with any of them, none of them are a bad product. Just a few things to watch for: is the product in date? Out of date resin might be a problem, even if you never opened it. Are you mixing it in the correct ratio? Is your work environment humid or too cold? These factors all have bearing on your success. You can re-cure resin; just mix another batch and put a thin re-coat over the top. If it's a nice sunny warm day you can also take it outside to cure, so long as you don't think dust, etc will blow into it. Another quick solution is Gel du Soleil sun cure resin over top, very thinly, if you have a tacky pour. Cures hard as nails in about 20-30 min and tacky gone! Gel du Soleil is always on my work table in the event something stays tacky. It cures outside in direct sun or in UV light.
ReplyDeleteHello B'sue, I don't blog about other resin's on this site..I only write about the products I am using and I started this blog by reporting how much I love ETI's product line. In my opinion, there is no such thing as a non toxic resin, but different companies are calling their products "a resin"...so I can only speak to our two part epoxy. But yes cured, ETI's resin is non toxic. ETI has all their information online and always complete Material Safety Data Sheets. They go above and beyond in that regard.
ReplyDeleteI get asked all the time about UV resins...I have tried them and have not been happy with the results compared to Envirotex Lite. UV resins are much softer and I prefer a glass like hard surface. Also, I attempted to teach UV resins in a class this spring....and the UV resin had completely hardened in it's bottle even though I stored it properly in preparation for the class. You have so many wonderful videos and teaching materials on-line! I hope you get a chance to try out this new resin soon! And thank you for visiting the blog!
I am finding that the resin has a bunch of very tiny bubbles that dont seem to go away, that is causing a cloudy effect. Is this normal or is there any suggestions that you may have to reduce or eliminate this from occurring. I am fairly new at working with resin. Thank you in advance for any advice you may have.
ReplyDeleteTry not to over mix and introduce alot of air bubbles whipping the resin. Also, be sure the resin is not too cold when you mix it. Most of these tips are covered in the video and on the blog.
DeleteI have used Enviro Tex Jewelry resin on many materials and must say I am totally pleased with the results. Good luck to all of you who use it for the first time. MOST IMPORTANT: mix 1 to 1 as advised and cover your work with a dome to keep the dust from sticking to it, or hair, etc. I use the bottom of a large container turned up side down and it allows the resin to cure without any particles sticking to it. I just love it.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the instructions on mixing...I purchased some at the craft store and did not get the directions for mixing. I looked all over the net and could not find...such a help
ReplyDeleteIf you have some time we have a great video too!
DeleteDoeS it harden like stone? I can indent mine with my nail, but it goes away. I'd like a hard stone seal. Can I coat it with something that will do that if this doesn't harden like that?
ReplyDeleteOnce the jewelry resin is completely cured it should not take a finger nail impression. It sounds as if the two components did not get completely blended. Our technician can help you with this. Her name is Marty and she can be reached at 1-800-368-9323 or email at msanchez@eti-usa.com.
