Glazing Tiles With Envirotex Lite To Make Cool Coasters

These happy shiny tiles were beautified with Envirotex Lite.
This durable, resilient material requires no polishing to produce a high gloss. One coating of this is equal to 50 coats of varnish!
Here is how my tiles started.  I collect napkins and always set aside unique patterns to make coasters with.  One napkin can easily become a set of four matching coasters.  I used Mod Podge to decoupage the napkin to the tile surface.
This tile I collaged and painted with acrylic paints.
When everything was dry, the tiles looked okay...a little dull would be my description.
I made a small batch of Envirotex Lite and brushed it across the surface of my tiles.
They cured to this gorgeous high gloss shine.  The colours are all brighter and my surface is now even.
I always line the back of my tiles with either felt or cork.  This way they stack nicely and won't ever stick together.
My before and after the glaze photos!

  1. What a great idea! We have a napkin saved from a friend's wedding--this would be a fun memento to make with it! Thanks for sharing :)

  2. Do these stand up to hot mugs being put on them? I have seen people use the envirtex for coasters, but no-one follows up to say if they stand up well as coasters... I LOVE the look and am dying to try something like this... :) Thanks for the tutorial :)

  3. All of our epoxy products will begin to see changes at 130*F. At 180*F the product will begin to soften. A cup of coffee from the coffee pot should be fine. That same cup of coffee put in the microwave and “nuked” will probably be too hot.

I hope this information is helpful.

  4. Interesting to see you brushed the Envirotex on your coasters. Does this leave any brush marks or bubbles? Thanks.
