Duplicating Napoleon with EasyMold

 This is a post that combines my two favorite topics: resin and Napoleon Bonaparte.  

This year I managed to find one of these Napoleon bottle openers in my antiquing travels.

They are not unique.  They are still sold in most Paris tourist shops.  I wanted an older one...and it is quite heavy.

To make my mold I chose ETI's EasyMold.

It is a very easy way to learn more about mold making.

 I knew it would be an awkward mold to make, since I did not want the bottle opener section.  You can see that I placed the main part of the bottle opener into my EasyMold.  

 For my first experiment I poured in some white EasyCast resin.  The area I wanted turned out perfect, but I did still have the remnants of the bottle opener section.

 This was easy to just cut away.  

Then I noticed that I had a tiny bubble in Napoleon's nose.  When you pour resin into a mold, sometimes air bubbles get trapped in the tiny areas.  Next time I will be sure to tap my mold a few times to let these air bubbles escape.

 I used metallic rub-ons to colour my new Napoleon pendant and then sealed it with Resin Spray.

I am thrilled with my results.  The detail is extraordinary and I have so many ideas for what to do with these Napoleon pendants!  I plan to make them in several colours.
