EasyMold Silicone Putty – Platinum Cure

I purchased this vintage brooch in Paris.  I have been wanting to make a mold of it and today seems like the perfect day to work on a series I have been thinking about.

Making a mold is so easy with the two part silicone putty in the ETI mold making family of products.
You knead equal portions of the two components until a uniform colour is achieved.  The working time is 3 minutes...so don't get distracted by anything else.
I pressed my brooch into the putty.
I made sure to create a little ridge so that my future resin pours would not run over.
25 - just twenty five minutes later I have a mold!
Isn't that great?
I know many of you might be tempted to use the mold right away.  The best tip you will see in the instruction sheet is that the mold should be left to cure for 24 hours.  So, now I happily wait!
EasyMold Silicone Putty is ideal for a wide range of impression type mold applications, including Castin’Craft Clear Casting Resin, EasyCast Clear Casting Epoxy, wax, baking, chocolates, ice cubes, soap, plaster, air dry clay, concrete and low melt metals! EasyMold is a easy to use, Odor Free, Non-Toxic, FDA compliant – Food Grade, two component silicone putty.
  • Easy to use, 3 Minute working time, 25 minute cure.
  • Ideal for small molds, excellent detail from original.
  • Strong, flexible, reusable molds.
  • High Heat range, up to 400º F.
  • No Shrinkage.
  • Self releasing, no mold release agent required for most applications.

  2. I hate to be asking you questions, since I know you are very busy, but why is it a good idea to wait 24 hrs before using the mold? I've used similar mold putty right away and would love to know the benefit of waiting. Thanks Carmi!

  3. Never too busy! I just learned the answer to this myself. When the silicone cures it continues to release teeny tiny gas....so if there was resin poured into the mold...you might see bubbles in your final mold surface...minor I am certain, but for people who love perfect, waiting would be best. I too have used the molds right away...but I always do one test mold with resin before I make my perfect piece so I never noticed the bubbles.

  4. Thanks Carmi! That is great to know. I guess since I mostly use the molds for polymer clay, the gas release is not a issue, but I can see how it would be for resin. That is something I would not of thought of.

  5. Hi! Just made some molds for the first time using my EasyMold. They are like rubber now. I'm wondering how these molds can be reused to make other molds? Do i need to apply heat? Thank you.
